Team Juggernaut

7 June 2011 will be 8 months since Cath and Andy Duncan’s daughter (who they had named Juggernaut, in the hopes that she would be “an unstoppable force”) died in utero at 5 months gestation, because of complications relating to Cath’s hereditary kidney condition. Juggernaut’s death brought Cath and Andy’s world crashing down around them. In one moment Cath and Andy lost their first – and probably only – pregnancy; their precious unborn baby girl; Cath’s health; life as they knew it; and all their dreams for the future.

Daily walks along the Bow River in Calgary have gradually helped Cath restore her emotional and physical strength and on 9 Sept, three of Cath’s good friends – Christina Greenway, Ilse Nel and Heather Plett – will join Cath to walk the grueling 100km sponsored Kidney March in Calgary.

Together we’re raising funds for kidney research and walking the Kidney March to be an “unstoppable force” that affirms that we can all pursue fresh goals and create a meaningful life after significant loss and adversity. And we’re asking you to join us in raising awareness, funds and hope for the issue of kidney disease.

Raising Awareness, Funds and Hope

We’ve set a goal to raise $45K for kidney research. Here’s how we’re doing it:

  • We’re asking all of our friends and family to join us and make a donation. Many have done so and we’re so grateful for their support.
  • We ran an online “donate-what-you-wish-when-you-enter” raffle with amazing career, lifestyle and business development prizes donated by over 50 top-class teachers, coaches and authors. This took place from 7 till 9 June 2011 and we pulled in over $6500 in donations.
  • We’re seeking corporate sponsorships for our cause.
  • We’re baking muffins for donations every week, our friends are running casual-wear fundraisers at work, and much more – we love hearing about the ways our friends are getting involved to help raise awareness, funds and hope for the issue of kidney disease.

Please join us and support this important cause with a donation of your own…

Every good team needs back-up!

Andy, Wessel, Jeff and Marcel are the long-suffering husbands that make up Team Juggernaut’s all-important pit-crew that’s responsible for everything from minding the kids so we could hole up in Christina’s basement to plan this fundraising project, to providing trusty shoulders to cry on and soft ears to listen when we were tired/ stressed/ terrified as we moved our fundraising plans forward, to planning the team’s long weekend hikes, to setting up our tents for camping and feeding us during the Kidney March… and perhaps there will even be a foot massage or two after the long days of walking in September! (wink, wink, nudge, nudge!)

Honorary Juggernauts

It sounds cheesy to say, but the statement’s never been truer – Kidney Raffle could not have happened without these people. Each of them committed significant time and valuable skills to areas that were critical to the existence and success of this project. And they did it with extreme generosity, providing their skills and knowledge pro bono, but working as if we were paying them top dollar. If you’re looking for high-integrity, highly competent service providers who are a joy to work with, to help you with these areas of your business, we can’t recommend these 4 big-hearted entrepreneurs enough…

And, of course, Team Juggernaut is a love-driven, unstoppable force because…

of everyone else who’s helped to make this website and project happen, all of the prize donors, everyone who’s already donated to sponsor Team Juggernaut’s walk, and last but not least…

You. Thank you.
